Swamped

I know I said that I was going to be better about blogging, and keep my photos updated and start building back stock to prep for Christmas. This time of year is usually our slowest and so we take this time to get ahead a little, build new equipment and do our big updating projects (we just changed to screen printing yay! but that's another blog for another day). But this months Growing Up Geeky alone has quadrupled it's orders compared to last DECEMBER! We've had 4times the orders in July then we had at Christmas!!! Isn't that fantastic?!? Yay us. And I.... feel like I'm dying.

It hasn't only been orders online; we also started selling in 2 stores (Savannah and L.A.) did a huge rush order for my friend's husband's Airforce squadron, got an order from our favorite shop, Pisces Passions, and as mentioned completely changed the way we make almost everything which is a huge huge trial and error process. Everyday this month has been a mad dash to accomplish as much as possible in the work day and be a great mom somewhere in there too, try to balance the marriage, the house, the bills, the kid, the feeding of everyone and at the end of the day I'm balling my fists screaming in my head; Why do they have to eat everyday?

But honestly, I'm absolutely astounded and so so grateful for all our customers and their amazing support. For the most part everyone is so patient, enthusiastic and so fun to work with. We've had our mishaps this month, more than I would have liked, and our costumers have stood by us. You all mean the world to us.

Thank you for the support, the orders, the patience, the awesome ideas, the photos. You guys seriously make it all worth while.

Nothin' but LOVE

I'm absolutely beaming today as I look over some of our customer reviews from our etsy shop. 5 stars across the board with some seriously awesome comments! I thought I'd share a bit of the love.

It Lives! Our blog lives!

I admit it wholeheartedly~ I am a terrible blogger. But I'm an awesome creator, an alright business woman, and a totally-crazy, hanging-by-my-fingernails but still pretty great mommy. So hang in there with me because in the end you'll love that you did. ;)

My small, two person (myself and sometimes my husband) business run from any spare scrap of space I can find in our rental and worked on every spare second day or night, is called Growing Up Geeky. And we make the cutest, cleverest, comfiest baby and toddler costumes and clothing you have ever seen.

Every month we come out with new designs. And my head is packed with hundreds more.
We do all our own dying. All our own designing. And all our own stamping, painting, sewing, gluing, etc.

When you support us in any way (buying, sharing, liking or following) know that you are building up a great little family, supporting real people, who make stuff with their own two hands and a baby wrapped around their ankles.
And don't forget- Raise your kids up right. Raise them to be geeks.

1st Birthday~ Healthy Birthday Cake

Was looking for 1st Birthday cake ideas as I'm absolutely opposed to giving my bruskie sugar. I'm trying to hold out on this for as absolutely long as possible. I found and am going to try this-

Healthy First Birthday Cake Recipes - Banana and Blueberry Cake

What we love about this recipe - apart from the fact that it tastes AMAZING - is that there are no complicated techniques involved in its preparation. You just put everything in one bowl, mix it all together, and you're done! If you have little baking experience and you're worried about making a mess of baby's first birthday cake, then this is the recipe to try - it's almost foolproof!
Baby's banana and blueberry birthday cake 4 oz (1 cup) old fashioned rolled oats
5 oz (1 1/4 cups) whole wheat flour
4 oz (1 cup) all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
good pinch of salt
6 medium ripe bananas, peeled and mashed
4 fl oz (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup blueberries, chopped (use fresh, or frozen berries thawed and drained)
4 eggs, beaten well
6 fl oz (3/4 cup) frozen unsweetened apple juice concentrate, thawed*
*You can use regular apple juice concentrate instead for a sweeter result, but do bear in mind that the recipe will be a higher in sugar than if you use the unsweetened variety.

Preheat the oven to 350 deg F (175 deg C).
Put the first seven ingredients into a large bowl and mix them together.
Add all the rest of the ingredients and stir well until thoroughly combined.
Grease a 9 inch cake tin and pour in the mixture.
Bake for around 50 mins to one hour, until a sharp knife inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Cool in the tin for 20 mins, then turn out on a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the cream cheese frosting in the photograph...
Stir together one 3 ounce package of cream cheese, 1/4 tsp of vanilla and 2 1/2 tbsp regular frozen apple juice concentrate (thawed). Spread over the top of the cake once it's cool.
